"One Take" videos with Jameson

Jameson

Ipswich based singer/song-writer Jameson wanted some music videos to accompany his debut album so we came up with these 3 "One Take" videos.

We wanted to record them all in one take to keep the emphasis strictly on Jameson's performance and to distance ourselves from the hyper cross-cutting of a lot of today's music videos and also to keep the budget to a minimum.

To watch these videos in HD, please click on the "cog wheel" icon below (in the bottom right of the Youtube frame, once you've pressed PLAY) and change the quality to either 720p or 1080p. Please ensure your computer is fast enough!

This was recorded in sub-zero temperatures at Echo base, The Hoth System, Anoat Sector, Outer Rim Territories.

It was shot on a Sony PD150 with a wide-angle lens then upscaled to HD.

Shot on a Canon 5D Mark 2 with a Nikon AI 28mm lens.

Jameson: "This song was written for my brother Kieran. It's about our time apart whilst he was being educated away from home at The Royal School for the Deaf. The house in the background is the one we grew up in. Where I am standing is where I used to see him off and welcome him home every week".

Performance written and arranged by Jameson. (British Sign Language).

i's dotted and t's' crossed by Kieran and Rebecca Whiting-Woodhouse.

"Man in window" played by Kieran Woodhouse.

Video concept by Jameson.

Shot on a Canon 5D Mark 2 with a Nikon AI 28mm lens.

Set design by Jameson, 'D', H.J Double'ya and M.Y.

Take 1 of 1.

Recorded live at Woodhouse House.

A Trip to Hong Kong, Taipei and Tokyo (2004-2005)

I refound some old photos from a trip to Asia in 2004-2005 so I thought I would make a little video out of them.

They were all taken with my first ever digital camera that I bought whilst I was over there. So I had to figure out the manual settings and how to operate it as I went along as I'd only used basic 35mm film cameras previously.

It was a Canon Power Shot S60 5 Megapixels - not exactly a professional camera by any means but it's still going strong today!

BBC Music Video Festival 2011

My music video "Kerse da Verse - Voodoo Browne (ft Cosha Don)" was selected for the "Launch Party and Not Safe For Work" category, alongside Chase and Status, at the BBC Music Video Festival 2011 =D

I was well chuffed with this as it's now 2 years on the trot that one of my videos has been chosen for this festival =D

Still Life - 4 Stories, Many Drugs (Documentary Trailer)

Still Life (Documentary Trailer) (DVCAM & miniDV) (2005) from M.Y Films on Vimeo.

Here's a trailer for a 40 min documentary that I filmed at HMP Wayland.
I spoke to 4 inmates who recounted their life stories and their experiences with drugs.

The aim of the project was to raise awareness on substance abuse and to give young people a better understanding about addiction through true-life experiences and steering clear of a "Just say no" approach.

To this day, Still Life still remains one of my projects that I'm most proud of.

The full length documentary, background info on the project and an article on the project in The Guardian can be found here: http://m-yfilms.blogspot.com/2010/03/still-life.html

Kerse Da Verse - Voodoo Browne (feat. Cosha Don) (2011)

Kerse Da Verse - Voodoo Browne (feat. Cosha Don) (DVCAM) (2011) from M.Y Films on Vimeo.

This music video was selected to be in the BBC Music Video Festival 2011 & STIX Festival.

I was approached by rapper Voodoo Browne who pitched me his idea for a typical hip hop video (rapping in various locations in his 'hood, with all his crew etc). However I wasn't really feeling this concept as I felt it would more than likely turn out to be a little cliched and also be visually uninteresting. So I pitched him a few other ideas and this is the one he went for.

The project was scripted, planned, shot, edited and directed by me.
With the exception of a few intentional scenes, the whole video was lit solely by fire.

Massive thanks to Mr Lee for getting roped in to doing the make up.
He'd never done anything like this before.

Enormous thanks also go to Tim and Charlie Clarkson for letting us use their place to shoot the video.

Playing 4 Success @ Ipswich Town FC (2001)

This was my first ever paid and commissioned job.

It's a short promo film for "Playing for Success" - a national initiative, set up by the Department for Education and Employment, which aims to help raise children's literacy, numeracy and ICT skills through football clubs and other sports grounds.

Music:
The Chemical Brothers - Where Do I Begin
Nu Tone - e.Spresso

Ipswich Town FC badge animation for "Playing 4 Success @ Ipswich Town FC".

ITFC's media department gave me an Adobe Illustrator file of the team's badge which I broke down into seperate elements, then animated and added the appropriate sound effects.

Illustrator, Photoshop, Flash and Final Cut Pro were used to create this logo.

HMP Wayland - aka - Wayland Sports and Social Center (2004)

This short tongue-in-cheek advert was featured in the middle of a Hepatitis C awareness video that I shot and edited at HMP Wayland in 2004 (and updated in 2010).

The project was scripted by HMP Wayland's Hep C Support Group, with additional material from myself, and won 2 Koestler Trust awards.
